What does “image resolution” mean?

Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. It is sometimes defined by image width and height, as well as the total number of pixels in the image. For example, an image that is 1600 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high (1600×1200) contains 1,920,000 pixels (or almost 2 megapixels).

What are the requirements for the photos?

Usually, photos taken from digital cameras can be uploaded directly to us. If you have a printed photo, you need to scan it before sending it to us. In general, the bigger the file, that more details it captures. Our recommended requirement for scanning photos is this: 300 dpi resolution in RGB mode, jpg format.

What are the recommended resolutions for printing?

Rule of the thumb: set your printer for the highest resolution possible. This will ensure the best results when we develop your digital images.

640 x 480 Absolute minimum resolution for 4x6
1024 x 768 Minimum recommended resolution for 4x6
1152 x 864 Minimum recommended resolution for 5x7
1600 x 1200 Minimum recommended resolution for 8x10 or larger

Suggested resolution
4” x 6” = 1200 x 1800 pixels
5” x 7” = 1500 x 2100 pixels
8” x 10” = 2400 x 3000 pixels
